Today is publication day for the Arrow edition of Good Bait – and how good it felt this morning, on walking into Foyles massive bookshop on Charing Cross Road, to see copies, face out, on the New Crime Fiction shelf.
All it needed to make it perfect, was for someone to have copied the page from last weekend’s Herald – a fine Scottish newspaper – where the book was chosen as their Read of the Week, with the following admonition alongside :
Repeat after us: John Harvey is Britain’s greatest crime writer, bar none. John Harvey is Britain’s greatest crime writer, bar none.
All together now …

Crack me up, and Congratulations~
Must admit it’s always been a bit of a mystery to me that your profile as a crime writer has not been higher. I suppose that the plus side is that at least we won’t have Tom Cruise as Charlie Resnick on the big screen!
Hope the shoulder is fully recovered.
“John Harvey is Britain’s greatest crime writer, bar none” Must be like bearing a child to have your words printed for mass distribution! Of course, I had my hard copy some months ago as I couldn’t wait for US distribution. Congratulations, Mr. H!
Patricia – About as high as Tom Cruise, if you see what I mean. And Pat – a whole lot less painful, I’m sure!
That’s lovely!
But OMG, please NOT from Pat’s lips to God’s ear – the very idea of Charlie being played by Tom Cr**se makes me sorry I ever got out of bed this morning.
When someone writes an paragraph he/she maintains the image of a user in his/her mind that how a user can be aware of it.
Therefore that’s why this piece of writing is perfect. Thanks!
